The Only 4 Pieces You Need To Add To Your Spring Wardrobe
Spring officially rolled in on March 20, and with the start of any new season comes a new set of fashion trends and weather appropriate clothing.
We may have spent the winter in our puffy coats, pants and scarves, but the spring weather doesn’t call for those cold weather essentials like the winter does.
That being said, the arrival of a new season can cause some anxiety for fashion lovers and haters alike. If you’re a fashion fiend, when spring or any season comes around, you’re probably wondering how you’re going to afford all the new pieces you want and where you’re going to put them in your closet.
On the other hand, if you don’t care much for fashion, you’re probably sick of having to keep up with the ever changing trends of every season.
No matter where you fall on the fashion spectrum, though, there is reason to celebrate this spring! You may think you need to stock your closet with all of the latest trends that we saw on the Spring 2015 runway, but in reality, there are only four essential pieces that you need to get you through this spring fashionably.
One Piece of Transitional Outerwear
The spring is notorious for tumultuous weather. One second it’s sunny and 70 and the next it’s a down pour and the temperature has dropped 15 degrees. In order to make it through these ups and downs in one piece, transitional outerwear is a must. No one wants to be shivering on their walk to class, so definitely invest in something you can wear all season.
One idea for this piece is a denim jacket. It’ll keep you warm and also goes with everything in your closet. Plus you can wear it in tons of different ways, like tying it around your waist or draping it over your shoulders.
Another idea is a pastel leather jacket. Black and darker leather colors are better left in the winter months, so trade in your black one for something more spring-y.
Think light pink, lavender or baby blue. The softness of the color combined with the bold sexiness of the leather will give your spring looks an edgy twist that you’ll absolutely love.
If neither of these speak to your own personal style, a trench coat is a classic transitional coat that you’ll be able to wear for years to come.
A Maxi Skirt
A maxi skirt is the perfect spring piece to add to your wardrobe because it is really transitional. You can get away with wearing a maxi when it is 45 degrees out but you can’t get away with a mini skirt.
So in these months of in-between temperatures, a maxi should be your go-to skirt.
You can also easily transition a maxi skirt from day to night or from work to play. Pair your maxi skirt with a nice blouse or t-shirt for the daytime and then switch that out for something a little sexier like a crop top or bustier. It’s no wonder a maxi skirt should be on your spring shopping list.
A Tunic
Tunics are great because much like a maxi skirt, you can style them any way you like. If you find a tunic that’s long enough, you can wear it as a dress, or if you are a little on the taller side, wear your favorite spring tunic over a pair of slim cut pants for a super chic look.
A Pair of Mules
There’s no doubt about it: mules are the shoe to have this spring. So if you’re only looking to add a couple of new pieces to your spring wardrobe, mules should definitely make the list.
If you’ve been slow to check in on the latest fashion trends, mules are a pair of slip on shoes that are missing the part of the shoe that covers your heel. You can find them in heeled, wedged or flat versions which makes it the perfect shoe for anyone, whether you’re looking for added height or not.
The flat version of mules are great for daytime casual looks, work looks or if you style them right, they can even work for nighttime. Heeled mules, though, are probably the best for night. However, just like the flat mule, they’ll work for a casual daytime look when styled correctly.
So stop fretting about your spring wardrobe! You don’t need to be a fashion trend expert or stock your closet with every trend we saw on the Spring 2015 runway to have an enviable spring wardrobe. Just add these four pieces to your closet in the upcoming months and you’ll be set.
